5.1 Mappings

To study the behavior of the plane when acted upon by analytic functions, we shall need to deal with two complex planes at a time.
The first one is the \(z-\)plane (or \(xy-\)plane) which is the domain and then the image plane, which we shall call the \(w-\)plane or the \(uv-\)plane.

A relation which establishes correspondence between points in the \(z-\)plane and points in the \(w-\)plane is called a transformation.
